A Lesson in Motherhood: What Happens When We Build One Another Up

During Adoration at church last week, L's rosary got caught on the pew when he was squirming around...and the beads went flying everywhere.

I'm crawling around on the floor in a skirt trying to find all the beads when a woman comes up to me and whispers in my ear.  She said that it's hard work being a mother and that Jesus was so glad that I brought my children there to pray even though it isn't easy.  She went on to say,

"When we only look in, we're depressed and stressed, but when we look out to Jesus, we can see that we're blessed."

There was more to it than that (I wish I could remember it exactly!), but it really touched my heart.

When the beads scattered under the pews, I instantly thought I was being judged by everyone in the room.  How often do we think that when our child does something unpleasant in public?

But what a relief to have my fear quelled immediately when she brought my focus back to Jesus.  Thanks for building me up and encouraging me, fellow mom.  That's just what I needed.

My friends, let's always build one another up, especially in our vocations as mothers.  We're all in this together!

What uplifting stories do you have where you were encouraged by a fellow mom?
