Five Ways to Use Rosary Roses to Teach Your Kids About the Faith

Five Ways to Use Rosary Roses to Teach Your Kids About the Catholic Faith: Prayer, Saints, Honoring Mary, Gratitude, Sacrifice, and Acts of Kindness which will draw us ever closer to our loving God! www.sweetlittleonesblog.com

I was given a set of Rosary Roses by Annery's Handmade to review, but all opinions are my own (and my kids' too!).  This post does NOT contain affiliate links.  Please see my disclosure for more information.

I was very intrigued by these Rosary Roses by Annery's Handmade when I first heard about them.  We had just begun praying the Rosary together as a family, so I thought they would be a great learning tool for our children while we were all saying our prayers.

And after receiving our Rosary Roses, we quickly discovered that they have many more uses than teaching our children how to pray the rosary.  These crocheted roses can be used in so many different and fun ways to teach our children about our Catholic Faith!

Praying the Rosary.

Obviously!  This is what they were made for.  Ten roses of one color for each Hail Mary and one of a different color for the Our Father and Glory Be

Two of my favorite things about the Rosary Roses are that they're soft and the perfect size for a child's hand.  They focus on their prayers better because they have something beautiful to touch and look at while praying.  And since the roses are movable and are larger than the beads of a rosary, they also help them count the prayers better.

Our daughter J absolutely loves using them while we pray the Rosary.  She particularly likes to line them up in an arc around her!

Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego: The Miracle of the Roses

Learning the Lives of the Saints.

During the Advent season, we celebrated several feast days, including the feasts of St. Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The kids had a blast acting out their story of the Miracle of the Roses with their Rosary Roses.  They kept asking to play it again and again (B especially loved dumping the roses - go figure!) so it helped them to really learn and remember the story of these two saints in such a fun way.

There are so many saints with roses as a part of their story (St. Thérèse of Lisieux being my favorite "rose" saint!), so we're looking forward to continue using them throughout the year to teach our kids about the lives of these holy men and women of God.

We love you, Mary and Baby Jesus!

Honoring Mary, the Mother of God.

We love to give flowers to Mary, but we don't always have fresh flowers at our house (especially in the winter!).  So we will lay the Rosary Roses at her feet to thank her for her "yes" to God to bear and raise the Savior of the World!

Counting Sacrifices.

Have you heard of St. Thérèse's Sacrifice Beads?  You "pull a bead" every time you make a sacrifice, like fasting, not complaining, doing something you don't like to (like washing the dishes!), etc.  Well, we use the roses instead of beads.  When the kids give something up - no matter how small - they get to put a rose in the bucket.  And when the bucket is full, they present their roses to Jesus as gifts of love to Him.

Excited that their bucket is full!

Counting Acts of Kindness.

We use them to count good deeds as well.  They also get to put a rose in the bucket every time they help clean up their toys, empty the dishwasher, share a toy without being asked, do something kind for someone else, and so on.  Once again, when the bucket is full of roses, they lovingly present them to Jesus.

Needless to say, we love our Rosary Roses!  They get played with or used everyday!

But the best part is that they are an excellent tool to teach our children about prayer, the saints, being grateful, sacrificial love, and being kind - which all draw us ever closer to our loving God!

Celebrating Advent with Your Family Features (Tuesday Talk #47)

Welcome to Tuesday Talk!

Advent begins this Sunday, November 29th!

Advent is a time of quiet preparation in our hearts and minds for the coming of the Son of Man at the end of time and also as a Child on Christmas Day.  We are very excited to use this time as a family to grow closer to Jesus through prayer, fasting, and good works!

This past weekend, we got an early start by making our own kid-friendly Advent Wreath (with retractable flames!).  We have an actual Advent Wreath, but I really wanted to make one with the kids too.  I think that the more they get to be involved in the details, the more they'll remember, learn, grow, and have fun this Christmas season.  (Here is how we made ours!)

We're planning on having a Jesse Tree together as a family as well.  We got this awesome book Our Family's Jesse Tree that has a devotion, activity, and ornament each day.  It's simple, inexpensive, and very family-oriented.  This is something new for us, so I know we're going to learn a lot!

We will also be celebrating saint's feast days, such as St. Nicholas Day on December 6th.  These holy men and women loved Jesus with all their hearts, minds, and souls.  So their love-filled words and actions point us towards Him whom they loved so deeply - Christ.

I'm very excited to begin this Advent season - I know it will deepen our Faith as a family!

Now, for the Tuesday Talk features!

There were several great posts relating to the spirit of Advent from last week's link up.  So here are my favorites to help you and your family prepare your hearts and minds for Christ's Nativity in just a few short weeks:

Preparing for Advent with Kids by Keri at Living In This Season

Keri has some great tips on how to be prepared for this upcoming Advent.  I think my favorite one is to be realistic and give yourself grace in the moment.  Remember what this season is all about: preparing for Christ!

It's too late to participate in Operation Christmas Child for this year, but she lays out great tips on getting ahead for next year.  But I also think these are great tips for buying for anyone in need, such as families at homeless shelters.  And that is something that would be wonderful to do not just at Christmas, but year-round.

Five Favorite Acts of Kindness by Holly at While I'm Waiting

Holly talks about several fun, easy, and cheap (or free!) ways to spread love and kindness around.  The best part is that they are all things you can do with your kids.  What a great way to involve your whole family in cultivating hearts of generosity and charity this Advent!

So what do you and your family do during Advent to prepare for Christ's Nativity?

Happy Thanksgiving and have a blessed start to Advent!

Joy - The One Thing That Will Always Make You Beautiful (Tuesday Talk #27)

Joy - The One Thing That Will Always Make You Beautiful. True Beauty - Proverbs 31 Woman. www.sweetlittleonesblog.com

Last week, our grandma unexpectedly died in an accident.  We are still in shock and grieving.  Only 7 months ago, our grandpa passed away.  These two were like second parents to us.  When I think back on our lives together, I can see how they shaped me in so many wonderful ways, especially in the Faith.  To lose them both so close together...oh, they will be terribly missed!

Joy - The One Thing That Will Always Make You Beautiful. True Beauty - Proverbs 31 Woman. www.sweetlittleonesblog.com

So when I sat down to write my beauty post for Tuesday Talk and Momfessionals today, my first thought went straight to them because...

Yeah, there's makeup (which I personally can't live without!), the perfect hairstyle, modestly dressing for your body type, eating right, and exercising, which are meant to physically beautify you.  And (in moderation) they are all perfectly wonderful ways to take care of the body God gave you.

But there's one thing that will make you radiantly beautiful with or without all of those things, and that's JOY.

Not just being happy.  But being joyful: living and loving the life God gave you.

For me, the people I have witnessed who most exemplified true beauty were my grandparents and Blessed Teresa of Calcutta (aka Mother Teresa):

Do you see wrinkles?  Gray hair?  Hunched shoulders?  Baggy clothes?

Or do you see love, joy, and beauty?

They all lived lives of virtue, charity, prayer, and devotion to God.  I can see - and even feel - the love radiating from them.  And that joy is present not just in the good times, but even in their difficulties and suffering too.  How truly beautiful.

So, it won't be easy, and it'll take work and discipline, but let's add some things to our daily beauty routine, ladies: generosity, patience, prayer, gratitude, love, a smile, and every virtue.

Let's live them joyfully and let the beauty of our soul shine forth.

One last thing...will you please keep us all in prayer as we lay our grandma to rest this week?  Thank you, friends.

We love you, Grandpa and Grandma!!!  Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord...
