Good Friday Reflections

“So they took Jesus, and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called the place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew Golgotha. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them.” John 19: 16-18 

Today as you reflect on the Passion of our Lord, I wanted to share with you two reflections on Good Friday - mine from last year and Blessed Is She's from this year.  Here are some excerpts:


Jesus Has Ouchies:

"It really struck me the first time J [kissed what she calls Jesus's "ouchies" on the Crucifix]…and it still does every time.  She expresses both sadness and happiness when she sees the Cross.  What all does she understand?  I don’t know.  She’s too young to truly know what we're talking about, but what shines forth from her is that child-like faith and love.  

So today on this Good Friday, we can take a lesson from this innocent faith:  Sorrow and love.

We should be sorrowful that our sins are what put Jesus on the Cross.  Every sin we have and ever will commit helped nail Him to the Cross.  But at the same time, we should be joyful that God gave us His Son out of love for us."  Continue reading...

Today is a sorrowful day.  The day Jesus died on the Cross for me, you, all of us.  But it is also Good.  Out of a pure, sacrificial love, He suffered and died on the Cross to redeem us from our sins.  Praise be to God.

DIY Prayer Sticks

This year for Lent, we made some prayer sticks to use with the kids. Abby picks a stick out of the jar every morning, and that is who/what we pray for during the day. I love the idea of offering up our trials during the day for someone else or for special intentions. I also love that it is something easy for Abby to make and understand :)

Basically, grab some popsicle sticks and write one intention per stick. We wrote our family member's names, specific causes we're interested in, and for our country/leaders.

On one end of the stick, add some fun washi tape or just color with markers. Keep the colored end up, and after you pick out your stick, place it back in the jar with the colored end down. It's an easy way to keep track of what sticks you've already used :)

Jesus Has Ouchies

Our 2 ½ year old daughter J is obsessed with taking care of ouchies.  Whenever she sees a cut or scar on someone, she sadly says, "Ooooohhhh!" and wants to kiss it so it’s “all better”.  She really is a little mother.

Well, a few months ago, we were showing J the Crucifix up close and talking about how Jesus died on the Cross for us and then Resurrected.  Right away, she got a sad expression on her face and said, “Jesus has ouchies!” and went straight to kissing His Hands and Feet to make Him feel better.  And now, every time she sees the Cross, she says, “Ooooohhhh, ouchies!” and asks to kiss them.  And then she smiles and says, “And then He rose again!  I love you, Jesus!”

So when I reflect on what happened today on Calvary, I will kiss the Hands and Feet of Jesus to express that I’m sorry for my sins and that I’m so grateful for His love for me!

Easter Basket Ideas

Having kids makes holidays so much more fun! I am a major planner - as in I got all of Abby's Easter basket goodies at the end of last summer when everything outdoor fun related was on clearance. I keep all my gifts I find throughout the year in a bin, and then distribute as necessary! I basically am done with Abby until she's five. Yep, I'm a little crazy. Crazy organized! ;)

Seriously, have you tried the Annie's homegrown cheddar bunnies? Those are a staple in our house! We are planning on having their bunny mac n cheese for Easter lunch. :)
