Snow Ice Cream Recipe

How To Make Snow Ice Cream: Easy Recipe - www.sweetlittleonesblog.com

We got 10+ inches of snow this past weekend, and then we got another 4+ inches on Wednesday.  So what can you do with all of this snow when you're stuck inside?  Make snow ice cream of course!

It's so easy too:  5 ingredients and 5 minutes is all you need.  Then, you have a fun, little treat!  (And it's not just for kids - my husband and I love it too!)

Any toppings you want!

1.  Whisk together milk, sugar, salt, and vanilla in a large bowl.

2.  Add snow to mixture and stir until desired consistency.  If it's runny, add more snow!

3.  Add your toppings and enjoy eating your snow ice cream immediately (because it melts very quickly!).

Edit (2/7/15): One amazing topping is...hot chocolate mix!  We tried it the second night we made snow ice cream, and it was to die for!  Trust me, you'll love it!

We loved making (and eating!) snow ice cream last year, so after we got all of this nice, fresh snow this week, we knew we wanted to make it again.  This is becoming one of our favorite winter family traditions!

Have you made snow ice cream before?  You should try it if you haven't yet - you'll love it!

Happy Friday!

Exciting News - Another Baby!

We have exciting news!  We're going to be aunts again!

Last September, our brother Matt got married to Karissa, and now, they are expecting their first little one!  We are so happy and excited for them!

Baby is due on July 1st!

Our kids are so excited for a new cousin too!  My daughter is already asking me just about everyday when their baby will be here ;)

I love all of their cute updates!

They're going to be finding out the gender today!, and then they're going to have a gender reveal party this weekend to share the big news.  I can't wait to find out...and I can't wait to see how they tell us!  Karissa is so creative - I'm sure it'll be so cute!

Ok, so I'm thinking girl...

And Katie is thinking girl too!

What will this little one be?!  I'll share the details once we know :)

What an exciting few years this will be for our family!

DIY Valentine's Day Wreath

When I was pregnant with Abby, I was in a very crafty mood towards the end. One of my favorite projects I completed was a heart argyle wreath for Valentine's Day that I found on Pinterest. I absolutely love how it turned out, and even after three years, it still looks pretty good! :)

I used a pool noodle for my wreath form - if they aren't available (I stock up after summer for craft projects :), a foam one from a craft store works great!  If you're using a pool noodle, use duct tape to keep the ends together ... clear tape hasn't held up as good in my experience.

For this project you will need:

Wreath form
Hot glue gun
Yarn (I used gray)
Two colors of felt (I used hot pink and light pink)
Scissors

1.  Take wreath form, and hot glue end of yarn on form. Start wrapping your yarn around it. This takes a long time, so relax and watch a movie while doing it :)

2.  Secure end of yarn on form with hot glue.

3.  Trace heart template onto felt. I don't have a template since all forms are different sizes - just use whatever size heart will fit best :)  Cut out hearts.

4.  Hot glue the hearts onto wreath, alternating colors as you go.

5. Take yarn and start criss-crossing in front of hearts. This is time consuming too if you are a perfectionist like me :)  Hot glue on back of wreath to keep in place.

Up close...love this wreath! :)

And that's it! Now hang it on your door and enjoy! :)

I love this one, and I'm thinking this year I'm going to make a similar one for St. Patrick's Day, but with shamrocks...then I can use for Notre Dame football season too, right?! ;)

Monthly Resolution: Prayer Life

Resolution: Improve my prayer life.

I have really been struggling with my prayer life ever since I became a mom three and a half years ago.  I have not found a rhythm since how I spend my time drastically changed when the little ones arrived.  (Can anyone else relate?!)  I have really noticed how bad it's been lately from the way I've been acting and feeling.  And I need to stop making excuses and do something about it.  Now.

Yesterday, I wrote some of my thoughts on prayer.  The 2 main points were that prayer is an action of talking and listening to God, and that I need to focus on the 4 types of prayer (ACTS) - Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving, and Supplication - in my prayer life. (Click here to read the whole post!)

Both of these need to be incorporated into my everyday prayer life, so I'm using them as the backbone of my game plan for this goal.  Everyday I plan to:

1. Pray with my husband and my family. God needs to be at the center of all our relationships, especially those closest to us.  We will take time in the morning and evening to pray together as a family, and also just as a couple so we can grow in our relationships together and with God. (2-5 minutes each, twice a day)

Our Prayer Altar on the landing at the top of the stairs.  This is where we read Bible stories and pray together as a family every night before the kids go to bed.  I need to start praying here with the kids every morning!

2. Read spiritual books. I will read the Bible in the daily Mass readings and then either the Blessed Is She devotion and/or Faith ND devotion with my husband (see #1). I will read an outside book relating to the Faith, and take time to meditate on what I've read. (Bible/Devotions - 5-10 minutes, Book/Meditation - 10-15 minutes)

3. Journal. I'll be using the Blessed Is She Lenten Journal to write down my prayers of ACTS to grow closer to God as we draw closer to Good Friday and then Easter!  I will keep my journal on my bedside table so I will journal each night before bed. (5-10 minutes)

4. Pray through my actions.  Pray without ceasing.  Make everything I do a prayer.  I will offer up my daily actions and inconveniences (without complaint!) as a prayer to God.  I will put up this verse throughout the house, especially in trouble spots - like above the kitchen sink! - to remind me. (5 seconds here and there throughout the day)

5. Realize what I'm saying and doing. I will slow down when I'm saying a memorized prayer and really say the words with my heart and not just my mind.  I will consciously make an effort to remember ACTS when I pray.  I'm going to use this as a bookmark in my spiritual books so it reminds me of the 4 types of prayer when I'm meditating on what I've read:

This will definitely be challenging and something I need to work on everyday.  But growing closer in my relationship with God will obviously be worth it!

What are ways that you incorporate prayer in your everyday life?  What do you do to build your relationship with Christ?  I'm so glad we get to go on this walk together, my friends!
