Catch Up and Confessions (Tuesday Talk #39)

So, hello there!  It's been awhile.

Time for some catch up and confessions after a blogging break this month.  Here's what I've been...

Not doing:  I did not do well on my resolution of stretching and being still with God this month.  I barely did it.  I could kick myself because I have truly needed His peace lately.

Since mid-summer I've just felt...weary.  There has been a lot of bad news recently (national and at home, serious and not so serious), and I feel like it keeps piling up on top of me.  I worry about what will happen, and I wish I could take the pain away that others are feeling.  So I've really felt weighed down lately - you know what I mean?  Ugh.  So finally this past week, I've been...

Working on: shaking myself free of it through prayer and the sacraments.  My husband and I went on a date to Mass and Confession this weekend, and that really helped me to get a fresh start.  "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

There are so many things that I have to remind myself of consistently, and this is yet another one!  Do not be afraid.  God is in control.  What helps you get through times when you feel anxious or burdened?

But even in the midst of my anxiety, we've still been having fun too.  We've been:

Loving, admiring, and exploring: the campus of Notre Dame.  We took our family to the Georgia Tech game this month.  It was so incredibly fun!  The big kids played football with Daddy and danced to the music by the band and bagpipers.  They high fived tones of players.  We walked around and soaked in the excitement of game day and the beautiful campus.  Taking the kids to Notre Dame on the day of a game is one of my favorite family traditionsSigh!  I just love it there!  So I'm very...

Excited about: Notre Dame football this season, and I'm...

Looking forward to: going to another game in October.  Let's keep up the good work, boys!

Sorry I cut of your head, #81!

And besides anything Notre Dame football related, we've also been:

Collecting and eating: apples, apples, and more apples!  My parents' apple tree has produced a ton of fruit this year, so we've been making lots of applesauce, apple pancakes, apple crisp, you get the idea.  I think I need one of those fancy apple peelers now!

Up to: home school preschool.  We're doing a letter a week and mixing in colors, shapes, fine and gross motor skills, etc. into the lessons too.  J absolutely loves it.  And actually, B does too.  I figured he would just play around us, but he actually wants to be in on the action too.  We've only been at it for 3 weeks, and I am so amazed at how much their little minds can soak up in such a short period of time!

So since I'm a newbie at home school preschool, do you have any advice for me?  Any fave blogs or Pinterest accounts I need to check out?  I love getting tips from all of you experienced moms and teachers - thank you so much!

Well, thanks for being patient with us this month as we've barely posted and missed a Tuesday Talk this month.  Katie was busy with moving, and I just needed a break to refocus.  We should be back more consistently soon!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you link up this week!

Tuesday Talk - What I've Been Up To :)

Seems like forever since I've posted - it's been crazy over here. It was a nice break from social media and blogging, and I feel like I've accomplished a lot in the last few weeks. So here's what we've been doing:

Our sister, Kelly, got married over Labor Day weekend. Everything went smoothly, other than a massive downpour right as the ceremony was starting. But they say rain on a wedding day is good luck, so it really isn't that bad ;) We all had a great time dancing away at the reception and then getting to watch Notre Dame pull off their first win of the season. Such a fun day and so happy to have Paul officially a part of the family :)

The beautiful bride with her nieces :)

We also closed on our house and slowly started moving in. We decided to paint a few rooms before moving all the furniture - so we spent the majority of our nights prepping rooms and painting as much as we could. We finally did our big move of all our furniture this past weekend. It is so nice to have everything at the house. Now I just need to unpack and organize :) Slowly, but surely it will happen!

This past weekend, we went to Notre Dame for the Georgia Tech game. After losing a lot of our key players to injuries in the first two games, I wasn't expecting much...so it was a nice surprise when they won! :)  We spent the day on campus, doing all the traditional Game Day events. Abby is already asking when we can go back. It was such a fun day!

Adorable little cheerleaders :)
Then on Sunday, we celebrated my brother's 18th birthday at my parents' house. We played Mafia and a few other games...our typical, family get together. :) Tony is the baby of the family...makes me feel really old that he's legal now! :)

So, in the past month, we've moved, gone to 2 weddings and a baptism, visited New York and Notre Dame, celebrated 3 family birthdays, painted 5 rooms with 3 to go, started going to a new church/all their activities....it's been busy, but a lot of fun :)  We're loving being back on a schedule now that most of the craziness is out of the way. Hoping to finish all the house work soon so I can relax a little ;)

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Monthly Resolution: Stretch and Be Still (Tuesday Talk #36)

 http://www.sweetlittleonesblog.com/p/start-fresh-series.html

This year, I've been following along with Emily at Ember Grey's 12 Months of Bliss Challenge for my Start Fresh monthly resolutions.  Every month there is a new challenge that encourages loving yourself and others through acts of kindness and gratitude.  Count me in!

Well, this month, I'm switching it up a little.  Sarah at Abiding in Grace is having a month of Being Still.  It goes along perfectly with Emily's challenge this month: Stretch...and both are exactly what I need right now in my current season in life!

EG's Twelve Months of Bliss

September 2015:  Stretch and Be Still

Challenge:
Physically stretch for 20 minutes a day: 10 first thing in the morning and 10 before bed.  Take these 20 minutes of stretching to
breathe in,
reflect,
and be still in God.

(You can read more about the challenge Stretch and safe ways to stretch from Emily here.  And you can read more about the challenge Be Still from Sarah here.)

Journal:
On the first day of the challenge, I'll answer Emily's questions:

How do you typically feel when you wake up in the morning, and what are your mornings typically like?

How do you feel when you go to sleep, and what are your evenings typically like?

How would you describe your general feelings and mood throughout the day?

In one word, how would you describe your average day?

Then, on the last day of this challenge, I'll answer them again to see:

How have my answers changed?

How did being still in God affect my mornings, evenings, entire day?

Community:
I'll be sharing my thoughts and reflections with others completing the challenge all month long through #12MofBliss and then by linking up my reflections here at Sweet Little Ones on the last Wednesday of the month on Emily's blog Ember Grey.  You should join in!

I'm really looking forward to setting aside some quiet time where I can just breathe in and reflect on God's Word and presence...

So what is your favorite way to be still in God's presence?

Or do you need to make room for some quiet time to be still in God too?

Either way, why don't you join us?!  Let's encourage and inspire one another!
