Tuesday Talk - Dr. Seuss Themed Baby Shower

Back on Mother's Day, I hosted my sister-in-law's baby shower. My brother's wife, Karissa, loves Dr. Seuss, so I picked that as the theme. I just googled Dr. Seuss and various characters from his books, and printed off images. I stuck them all over the place. :) I also used my kids' books and stuffed animals to decorate the living room.

I loved my Truffula trees ...just black straws and construction paper :)

The Lorax lemonade

On the front door :)

It was a co-ed shower, so I tried to make the games fun for guys too. The first game was partnering up and changing a baby doll (diaper and clothing). Each person could only use one hand so it proved to be a little challenging...and really funny :)

The future parents practicing changing a baby :)

The next game was something I made up ... it was a game we played at a Christmas party, but I changed it to make it baby themed. Give each person a paper plate and a pen...

Now have them put the plate on their head and have them start drawing a scene you call out. I had them draw a straight line, then had them add things like a crib, mobile, baby, toy, window, etc. Then when they were done, they got points for certain things: points if the baby had a face, mobile was over crib, crib was on floor, etc. Like I said, I made it up and just assigned random point values. It was really fun seeing all of the art work afterward!

Our last game was one I had played before and thought was fun. Basically you have ten brown lunch bags, and you write out BABY SHOWER (one letter per bag). Inside of the bag is a baby item that goes along with that letter...apparently I made this one pretty hard. It was still fun!

What the heck is in this bag?? :)
Here's what I used:
B - board book
A - A & D ointment
B - bibs
Y - yellow soap
S - safety swabs
H - hats
O - outlet covers
W - wet bag (this proved to be very hard!)
E - entertainment (toy :))
R - rash cream

Other ideas could be: bath toys, aspirator, blankets, yellow duck, shampoo, hangers, onesie, wipes, elephant toy or eight ounce bottles, rattle. Tons of possibilities!

Everyone who won got a prize, and then my brother and his wife also got a little prize for Baby Ezra. The prizes were popcorn in a treat bag. I found the top on Pinterest here - it's a free printable too! :)

My stash of prizes :)

I love baby showers, and I think this one went pretty well! My husband said it was the best one he's ever been to...but also the only one, so there's that ;) haha

  1. This is awesome! I love that it's perfect for a baby shower theme but kind of unexpected (at least, I've never heard of anyone doing it!). So much cooler than just a pink and blue theme or something.

  2. That is a great baby shower theme. I haven't been to a shower in years. Maybe even a decade. I did always enjoy them, though.

What a wonderful baby shower you threw! I love the thought and the dedication to it. We didn't have a themed baby shower like that.

  16. I love baby showers!! This one looks super cute. I've been to a few co-ed showers lately and I'm really liking that trend. Your games sounded like so much fun. I've never heard of your last game where guests try to guess what's in the bag. I'm hosting a baby shower at the end of the summer and I'll have to keep this idea in mind.
