Katie's Reading List

One of my favorite things to do is to read books. I can't say that I read even half as much as I used books now tend to be about Disney characters or Dr. Seuss (not complaining, I love those!) :) And, since becoming a mom, I've become notorious with starting books and never finishing them. So some of the books on my list I am half way through already...although I will probably start back at the beginning. :)  So here is part of my list - these are books that I own:

Small Steps for Catholic Moms (Danielle Bean and Elizabeth Foss) - really simple, daily read. Each day is a page long with a prayer, quote/bible verse for reflection, and an activity. You really don't need to be Catholic - it's a great read for any mom. :)

House Rules (Jodi Picoult) - I just got this book from a White Elephant book exchange. I had never heard of it, but it sounds like a good read. Murder mystery type of book - right up my alley!

Kisses from Katie (Katie Davis) - I started this book for our book club well over a year ago, and I never finished it. It's about a young girl moving to Africa and her new life there.

Strange Gods (Elizabeth Scalia) - another book club read not finished. This book was really interesting - it's about making gods out of social media, celebrities, sports, etc. and how that effects you/the world.

Choosing Beauty (Gina Loehr) - a short read, and I've read it before. It's a 30 day challenge on how you see yourself with daily reflections and questions for journaling. I'm thinking about doing this book for Lent this year.

The Seven Levels of Intimacy (Matthew Kelly) - this is one of my favorite books and Kelly is a great author! He's very straight forward and does not sugar coat, which I love. :) The book is about communication - how we let people in, things we discuss, etc.  Highly recommend!

Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World (Joanna Weaver) - just started this book this month and it's great so far! It is coinciding with my word of the year (less) so I'm finding it quite helpful. :)

And here is the rest of my list, plus any suggestions from you all!! These are ones that I want to check out from our library - more light reading and books that I've heard are really funny/good.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling

Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan

The Shadow of the Bear by Regina Doman  (I read her book, Rapunzel Let Down...I couldn't put it down! I heard this one is even better, so I already have it on hold at the library :)

What books are you reading this year? Any books I need to check out?

Sharing my
Thoughts for Thursday with Natalie and Annie,
Friday Faves AndreaErika, and Narci,
The Pick with Astleigh, Week's End with Elizabeth

  1. I havent read any of them but several of them sound really interesting!

  2. I have that same problem! I have about 5 im halfway through and need to finish!

  3. House Rules is one of my ALL-TIME favorite books! :) I love Jodi Picoult !!

  4. I've wanted to read Dad is Fat and Is Everyone hanging out without me? (and other concerns) because they both seem really funny. I'm hoping to tackle my own must read list for the year and am especially looking forward to One Thousand Gifts and Bringing up Girls.

  5. I love the idea of reading, Choosing Beauty at Lent. I just might join you. Sounds like a book, I could really benefit from! I just finished Orphan Train which was a fabulous book. I couldn't put it down once I started. Now I am reading Me Before You, for book club and so far I really like it!

  6. Strange Gods was literally my least-favorite book from Book Club last year. I've read Mindy Kaling's book, and if you like that, try Tina Fey's Bossypants as well. I've been wanting to read Dad is Fat, too. Good luck on finishing some books this year!

  7. I need to get back into reading! I have missed it and just need to set aside some time to do so! Thanks for adding to The Pick!!

  8. I will have to check out some of these. I too, haven't read much of anything but childrens books over the past 2 years! It's about time I find a good one for myself!

Thanks again for linking up with the Saturday Spotlight! :)

  9. Oh I've been wanting to read more this year, I'm definitely going to check some of these out! :) Thanks for linking up with us today! xo

  10. I make a goal every year to read X number of books, but since having a baby, I seem to not finish way more books than I ever have before lol. House Rules was a great book as was Mindy's book. My husband just read Dad is Fat, loved it, and is now bugging me to read it, but we are huge Jim Gaffigan fans. The best books I read last year were The Rosie Project, Me Before You and Eleanor & Park. I'd recommend all 3 of those if you haven't read them already!

  11. These all sound great, I think I'm reading the Mary/Martha one next! Currently I'm reading Power Thoughts by Joyce Meyers, Becoming a Happy Wife by Arlene Pelicane and The Joy of the Gospel by Pope Francis. All great so far! :)

  12. great choices! Matthew Kelly is a recommendation if you haven't read him... life-changing for me. he's a catholic writer and is amazing. happy reading to you!

I love reading your comments - it makes my day! :) Thanks for dropping by!
