Two years ago, Katie and I were inspired by Johanna's felt Nativity scene from Crazy Blessed Life. What a great way to put more of the focus on Christ during the Christmas season.
And why not make it together? We set aside a "Pinterest day", where our husbands watched the girls, and we went to town. It was easy cutting and gluing everything, but let me tell you, it took us all day to make 2 Nativity scenes. It's a lot of cutting and gluing. But it was so worth the end result:
DIY Felt Nativity
Materials needed:
Felt (You can buy small sheets of them in every color at Hobby Lobby for 25 cents a sheet)
1 Large Sheet of felt in a neutral color for the backdrop (size depends on how big you want it)
Fabric Scissors
Fabric Glue
Pen OR Paper and Printer (depending on if you freehand or use her pattern)
What we did differently: We freehand drew our patterns, but based it all off of the pictures from Johanna's blog. (She does have patterns on her post, but we did not use them.) We did change several things, such as the sheep, Mary, the stable, angel, and backdrop. We also used fabric glue, which is lighter in weight than hot glue. Felt sticks to felt, but if it weighs too much, it won't stick very well.
So...
1. Cut, assemble, glue together. Allow 24 hours for glue to dry.
2. Read the Nativity Story to your kids, and then let them play out the Christmas scene!
