I don't want to discard 2016 even though the second half was especially tough. We had so much fun together! I want to remember those smiling faces and happy times. But I want to remember the suffering too. It has helped us to see how much we need to trust in God's love for us as His adopted sons and daughters. 2016, you've been quite a ride.
So here are the highs and lows of our 2016:
I wrote out my special bump update - adoption style. Oh, how I love to carry L!
We have a very mild winter (hallelujah!!!) so we still got to spend a lot of time outside (because this mama doesn't do cold!).
I had surgery to remove my stage 4 endometriosis the day after Easter. A lot of unexpected things happened, but by the miraculous grace of God, I was at peace with it all. (You can read the whole story here.)
L's first birthday was less than a week before Easter and my surgery, so we held off celebrating until the end of April. We threw L a Charlotte's Web birthday party! (It's my favorite one to date!)
I love May for 3 big reasons: summer is almost here, Mother's Day, and our annual trip to the Toledo Zoo!
It was a month full of perfectly ordinary family moments! We took lots of trips to the zoo, walks around the neighborhood, and "bike hikes". We also took J to her first play - Beauty and the Beast! - and the whole family to the beach. And L got his first haircut! (And I even didn't cry!)
A certain little girl turned 5 and had a practically-perfect-in-every-way kind of birthday.
It was a month of celebrating! Jim and I both turned 33. And my Etsy shop really started taking off! J started preschool, and L started walking...and really talking!
September kicked off 4 months of constant doctor's appointments for me and for B. This month, B had an endoscopy.
The doctor's appointments continue. We found out B is extremely far-sighted and will now be wearing glasses!
This month was still filled with many doctor's appointments...but also a lot of sunshine! We had an extremely warm fall, and we enjoyed every minute of it! Playing in the leaves in our shorts in Indiana in November?! I'll take this fall weather every year please!
Lots of family time really helped with the stress of so many doctor's appointments. (Between B and I, we saw 13 different doctors and specialists this year! Yes, 13!) But we got to have Jim home for almost 2 weeks this month. We had such a fun Christmas, and a great time celebrating B's 4th birthday Captain America style on the 26th.
And now, 2017. I'm looking forward to a fresh, new year (other than our deductible starting over!). This new year is truly filled with so much hope and promise!
On Friday, I'll be sharing my one word, patron saint for the year, and my goals for 2017. It only took til nearly halfway through January, but my word finally picked me. And it's a tough one. Looking forward to sharing it with you and hearing about your word for the year!
