Life Lately: Summer Style

Summer seems to be flying by...we're nearly halfway through June already!

It's been busy, busy, busy but so much fun too.  Here's a little of what's been going on with us this month:

1.  Picking strawberries.

We have had a great harvest this year, so naturally, we've been having a lot of shortcake!  I'll have to share this recipe with you soon.  It is so amazing!

This strawberry harvest gives me high hopes for the rest of the veggies this year!

They have to be just like Daddy :)

2.  Mulch.

And lots of it - 18 yards to be exact.  A dump truck had to drop it off!  (Highlight of the kids' week...or maybe summer ;)

Mulching was a lot of work (mostly for my husband!), but it looks fabulous now.  We hadn't mulched the front in 2 years...and it was the first time since we've lived here for the back and side yards.  It sure needed it!  I'll be sharing some after pics next week!  (P.S.  I did help too ;)

The joys (and costs) of being a homeowner: repairs can be expensive...but are so worth it in the end!

3.  Repairs.

Well, the day before we were set to replace our very old rotting patio doors, our skylight started leaking....and our water heater too.  Ugh.  So two new 3 paneled patio doors, a new water heater, and a lot of caulk later, we had quite the expensive week.

So I'm hoping we're set for awhile with home repairs because it always happens in 3s, right?!

4.  Making over my mornings.

I've been working hard at being more productive in the mornings.  Like setting time aside for me to get ready, do some spiritual reading (currently from Blessed Is She's daily devotions and Rosaries Aren't {Just} for Teething*), write in my journal, eat a decent breakfast, and check a few things off my to-do list.

I've been using the Money Saving Mom's Makeover Your Mornings course* and Keri's e-book Why Survive When You Can Thrive* as my guides, which have been a tremendous help since I am not a morning person by any stretch.  It really makes a world of difference getting up before my kids do!  I actually feel ready for the day and get so much more done!

And when I say "so much more done", I mean the fun stuff, like going to the zoo and playing outside with the kids.  Because I was able to get all the other "busy" stuff, like laundry and dishes, done earlier.

Anyone else do this?  I'd love to hear your tips on how to stay on track!

Dimples for days...sigh!

5.  L is cooing and laughing now!

Every age has it's pros and cons, but this age is one of my faves.  He still wants to snuggle, will sleep anywhere, and just smiles and laughs all the time.  It's hard to beat!

He always looks so serious when he's "talking"!

6.  Great news about our adoption!

We finally have our adoption finalization date!  We are making it in right before our homestudy expires.  Whew!  L's been a part of our family from the beginning, but it'll be official soon.

P.S.  We would be so grateful if you would continue to keep our adoption in prayer though - we still have something we're waiting to hear back on.  Thank you so much for your continued prayers for all of us!

We love the summer!

7.  Slowing down.

Also, Katie and I decided that we'll be posting less this summer - probably 1-2 posts a week (but always on Tuesdays for Tuesday Talk of course!).  We'll pick back up again in the Fall.

It's time for all of us (including you!) to be outside having fun with our families!  May it be a truly beautiful summer for all of us :)

So what have you been up to lately, my friend?  I hope you're having a fabulous summer so far too :)

  5. Wow! Those home projects look great. I love the new doors. The investments always pay off, but it's hard when several things happen at once. We got a new water heater this week, had roof and siding repairs so I'm hoping we're done for a while too. Your new morning routine sounds great. I'm not a morning person either so this is really intriguing. Congrats on the great adoption news.

  18. I love your post and pray that everything continues to go smoothly with the adoption. My cousin adopted 4 years ago and everything went according to God's plan. She and her husband and our entire family couldn't be happier! God bless you for sharing your love and opening your heart to a child in need.

  23. Yikes, sorry about all your repairs too! But, yeah, I'm glad to have them out of the way now. And at least we didn't have any major damage with the leaks. And the morning routine - whew, it's a bumpy road! I am not a morning person! I think the key for me is what happens the night before. I have to work on getting to bed earlier. That will make getting up easier (I hope!!! haha) -Jess
