Pączki Day!

Happy Fat Tuesday - or for my family, Paczki Day! :)  Paczkis are jelly filled donuts that are popular to eat and make on Fat Tuesday in Poland...one last hoorah before Lent starts on Ash Wednesday! We celebrate it because my husband is 100% Polish, and I'm 100% into celebrating any holiday that has to do with donuts! ;)

My husband modeling our remaining two donuts from Valentine's Day...some girls want roses, but my husband knows the way to my heart is food ;)

This is a new tradition for me, but John has many fond memories of Paczki Day as a child. He said they typically went to a bakery to look for the messiest donut they could find (sounds like a young boy, right? ;) This year, we're going to try to make them at home. I'm giving up sweets/desserts for Lent this year, so I'm going out with a bang tonight ... and hopefully these taste amazing!

Seriously, how yummy does that look? I found the recipe for these on Brown Eyed Baker, and I can't wait to try them. :) I am going to miss donuts for the next forty days!!

Happy Paczki Day everyone!!

  3. Yum, yum, yum! Where I grew up in West Michigan Fat Tuesday was a big thing and I miss the Paczkis!! We are living on the gulf coast now and they have Kings Cake instead which isn't nearly as good!

  5. Kings Cake isn't bad, but you definitely can't beat Paczkis! We venture up to Michigan a lot for Polish festivals, stores, etc :)
