Currently: February 2015

I've never done the Currently link up with Anne and Jenna before, but it looks like a really fun one.  So here goes!

Silly family cell phone selfie

Hearting:  my husband Jim.  I know that sounds sappy, but recently, he has been sweeping me off my feet...by just being a great husband and father.

Jim has been so strong and loving as we've gone through some hardships lately.  And he has really stepped it up in helping us as a couple to grow in our faith and prayer lives (see the Anticipating section below - I am so grateful for him!).

I found the two of them like this the morning after their indoor camp out.  So sweet!

AND he has been just relaxing and having fun with the kids when he's home.  I seriously hit the jackpot with this guy!

Reading:  several books right now.  I'm reading Momnipotent and Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World for two different book clubs I'm in.  They are both really helping me to see the beauty in being a wife, mother, and woman.  I highly recommend them!

Jim and I are reading Treasure Island together - it is sooooo good!  Every night when we come to the end of a chapter, one of us always says, "Just one more chapter...please?!"  (Ever since we were dating, we've always been reading a book out loud to one another - usually a fun classic fiction book!)

Reading during the kids' naptimes :)

Pinning:  toddler preschool and indoor activities for kids.  We're snowed in, so I need some more ideas to keep the kids entertained.  What do you do with your kids when you're stuck inside?

Blanket forts and indoor camp outs when it's too cold to go outside

Eating:  Chili!  This winter has me on a serious chili kick.  Taco chili, white chicken chili, and so many more.  It's been a delicious winter.  (I'll be posting more chili recipes soon...Sausage Chili...Veggie Chili...mmmm!)

White Chicken Chili...yum!

Anticipating:  anything and everything surrounding our adoption.  After our recent fall through of the twins, we're back to just waiting on the active list again.  So I'm anxiously awaiting a call from our agency for another match.  Hopefully, it will be in the next few months.  (Will you please keep us all in prayer while we wait?)

Jim gave me a card with this verse in it when we first found out the match had fallen through.  I just keep going back to this over and over again.  God will answer our prayers and bring the perfect little one into our family at the right time!  And He will keep us strong while we wait!

So what are you currently up to?

  1. I love the idea of reading book out loud together every night. I've done a book club with my hubby, but we just read on our own. Your version sounds way more fun!! What's the best read aloud you've enjoyed together??

  2. I LOVE Treasure Island! I reread that a few years ago, and just thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it's just so sweet that you both read to one another. What a wonderful tradition!

  4. Thank you so much, Anne! We greatly appreciate it. We're definitely feeling better. And we have our little ones this time around to focus on while we wait. Too bad were stuck inside! Haha. But we're still having fun...but still dreaming about spring and sun and green grass! Thanks for hosting! - Jess

  5. Whitney, we have many recommendations for you! Haha. We mostly read young adult classic fiction...so it's fairly easy and a very fun read. Our faves are:
    The Hobbit by Tolkien
The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien (Although it's very long!)
The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis (it's 7 books total but they're pretty quick reads)
    Quo Vadis by Henryk Sienkiewicz
    Harry Potter by JK Rowling
Tale of Two Cities by Dickens
    Oliver Twist by Dickens
The Space Trilogy by CS Lewis
The Deluge by Henryk Sienkiewicz (long but very good!)
The Scarlet Pimpernel by Emma Orczy (I think Eldorado is the sequel...I'll have to look that up)
Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson

But I'd say the best to start with would be The Hobbit, Narnia, Treasure Island, or The Scarlet Pimpernel!

That was probably way more than what you were asking haha. We love to read! -Jess

  6. Thanks! I think it's sweet too :) I'm so glad we've kept it up even once we had kids. Do you have any other recommendations for books along the lines of Treasure Island? Fictional young adult classics? We love fun and somewhat easy reads like that! -Jess

  7. I've never tried to read more than one book at a time. Is it hard to keep straight what's going on in each book?

  8. Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World- sounds intriguing! I am going to have to check it out… thank you for sharing!

  9. I am so glad there are people like you and your husband out there who are willing to give these precious children homes!! I just pray I would have the strength to be so brave if I ever feel called to adopt. Praying for your family right now!

  10. What a sweet idea for a post! I think I might start doing a similar kind of life update. When I am snowed in with the kids we like to bake, pretty much anything containing chocolate chips! :)

  11. Usually, I'm just reading two...and two very different books, like a spiritual book and a classic fiction. So they're different enough to keep straight. But this is my first time reading two similar books...both the spiritual books. It is hard to keep them apart...but I figure they kind of go together so they enhance each other, right? That's what I'm going with anyway! -Jess

  12. "Be still and know that I am God" is what has been particularly speaking to me in this book. It's been so helpful! I hope you do check it out, Nelle! I think you'll really like it! -Jess

  13. Thank you so much, Rachel! It is a hard road sometimes, but it's so worth it in the end. And really we are the ones who feel so blessed that these birthmothers entrust us with such precious gifts! Adoption is a crazy and beautiful journey. Prayers for you as you discern your calling! -Jess

  14. That is really sweet about your husband! He sounds like a wonderful man and great daddy! I remember when my dad would have indoor (and lots of outdoor) campouts, and they are such sweet memories. That photo of them on the floor sleeping is precious!!

So glad you joined us for Currently!
