Jessica's Goals for 2015

http://www.sweetlittleonesblog.com/p/start-fresh-series.html

Usually, we just pick just one resolution for the month to work on.  But with the new year, Katie and I are each going to talk about a few goals we have for 2015.  (Yesterday, Katie shared her goals here.)

I'm keeping it simple...but definitely tackling some big things I need to work on.  So here goes:

1.  Sending out cards.  Doing our Acts of Kindness this past year really made me think about this.  Recently, I have been so bad at sending out cards at the necessary times.  I'm ashamed to admit it...like sending out Thank You cards.  Yikes.

So this year I want to get back to this from Thank You cards to Birthday to Sympathy to Thinking of You.  It really means something to someone when they know that they're being thought of, prayed for, and appreciated.  I know it means something to me!

2.  Putting down my phone....and camera.  Period.  I want to live my life while it's happening.  Not behind a lens.

3.  Being thankful.  I want to continue my goal from last November into this new year.  I want to be thankful for what I have been given...the big and the small...the good and the "bad".

4.  Working on my prayer life.  It's been awful since I became a mom.  It's been 3 and a half years, and I still haven't found the right schedule or balance.  And it's really starting to show.

So I'm starting small, and (hopefully!) I will be able to build up to more.  Obviously, I'll only be able to do a few of these daily, but these are what my prayer tools are going to be:

Reading the Bible
Reading a devotional daily (I like Blessed Is She's daily devotional email the best!)
Reading spiritual books and books about/by the Saints
Giving up/sacrificing little things throughout the day (such as not complaining while doing housework! ;)
Spontaneous prayer throughout the day
Praying with my kids and husband to start the day, before meals, and to end the day
Listening to Christian music (they're basically prayers set to music!)

Now, I just need to remember to do it!  What do you do?  And what are some ways you incorporate prayer into your life as a busy mom?

5.  Letting go.  I wanted to work on this before we got the news about the twins, but now, it's completely necessary, or I may actually lose my mind. ;)

I am a type-A to the max in many ways.  And that is not a good place to be with toddlers and newborns.  So I just want to work on relaxing, going with the flow, and not flipping out of the little things...like kids being messy or things not going as planned.

This might also be called...ummm...working on patience.

I think this goal will go hand-in-hand with praying more.  As my prayer life improves, I know my ability to let go will get better too.

I'm sure these will be making their way into the monthly resolutions for 2015 too.  I know they're big goals, and they'll be a challenge, but they'll be so worth it too!

To help keep us on track, Katie and I made Pinterest boards for our goals and projects for the New Year - here is mine, and here is hers.  Follow along if you'd like!   What are your resolutions for the New Year?  How do you keep on track?

I'm excited to get started and see what 2015 brings!  Cheers to the New Year!

  1. What a great list of goals!! I love sending snail mail and Olive likes to help decorate the envelopes :) I could definitely join in with putting my phone down, praying more and working on my patience/letting go!! I'm right there with you with lots to work on and lots to be thankful for. I think 2015 is going to be a great year :)

  2. Visiting from the Monthly Goals link up. I also have struggled so much with prayer life since becoming a mom. It's so hard for me to have a routine when it can be interrupted at any time, and it's so hard to keep praying regularly without that routine.

    1. That is my struggle too. I'm a planner, and with kids, plans fly out the window. I've got to find something that I can stick to with prayer. One thing I've started is doing it with my husband every night. And I'm going to try getting up a little earlier so I can have a little quiet time to pray and read before the kids get up. We'll see...I'm not a coffee drinker so I may have to find a caffeine substitute first! ;) -Jess

    1. That's my big struggle too. But lately I've come to see that I may just need to break it up into 2-3 minute prayer times throughout the day...like praying while I put a load in the wash, make lunch, ...you know, the everyday stuff. I'm hoping that works! -Jess

  5. I love all of your goals, my word for last year was "present". I wanted to focus on putting my phone and social media aside more and it was such a great focus to have over the past year :) I've finally found a good balance.

  7. Love your list of goals! I had never listed mine out for all the world to see till last week. They were always just in my head and, therefore, I never followed through. Looking forward to keeping up with you and your road to twins! So exciting! Praying for you guys!

    1. We've been doing a monthly goal on here too. You're so right - actually writing it out for the world to see sure makes you follow through! What a motivator it's been. Thanks for following along - please pray for all of us with the adoption! Thanks you! -Jess

  8. I love the idea of putting down the phone and camera. I so often feel like a terrible blogger because I just don't take as many pictures. But, I've learned that I'd rather enjoy the moment with my husband or family than be worried about pulling out my phone to take the perfect shot. My year is going to be all about cherishing every moment.
    Happy New Year!

    1. What you said is perfect: cherishing every moment. I saw I was trying to capture memories instead of actually living them. Happy 2015 to you too! -Jess
